Frequently Asked Questions

Is your All Natural Soil Developer weed free?

Yes, all of our products are guaranteed to be weed free, or your money back. A 3 inch layer of any of our products is enough to suppress existing weeds, and we guarantee our product won't introduce any new ones.

How are you able to guarantee your products are weed free?

We produce our own compost on an advanced turned-aerated composting system (TAP). We track temperature, moisture and oxygen levels throughout the entire production process. We are required to maintain a minimum temperature of 55 degrees C for 15 days, in addition to turning the material 5 times during this 'hot' phase.  This heat treatment kills weeds, seeds and pathogens, while providing an ideal environment for the thermophilic microbes that convert nutrients into a plant-available form.

What is a soil developer?

A soil developer is an organic soil amendment, typically known as compost, designed to provide plant-available nutrients, improve soil structure, increase organic matter, and support beneficial soil biology. It helps soil retain moisture, improve drainage, and grow stronger plants.

What ingredients are in your soil developer?

Our soil developer is a compost comprised of cattle manure and recycled garden waste. The garden waste is unprocessed plant materials only; no dimensional lumbers, painted or treated woods, plastics, soils or other contaminants. These materials are blended to create a stable, nutrient-rich soil amendment.

What is OMRI Listed®?

OMRI Listed® means a product has been reviewed by the Organic Materials Review Institute and approved for use in certified organic farming and gardening.

A link to OMRI compost standards can be found here

How do I know which product is right for me?

Although this Website may be linked to other websites, we are not, directly or indirectly, implying any approval.

Is your soil developer safe for vegetable gardens?

Yes. Our product is composted and stabilized before distribution, making it suitable for use in vegetable gardens, flower beds, and landscape applications. OMRI standards are robust and require us to test and track pathogen levels regularly, maintaining them below their strict standards.

Can I plant directly into it?

Our All Natural Soil developer is best used as an amendment as it is rich in nutrients and organic matter. We suggest top dressing with a minimum of 3” to improve soil health rather than planting directly into it alone. Applying our products at a 3”+ depth means we guarantee it to be weed free for 30 days, or your money back!

How does Farm to Garden help reduce waste?

We divert large volumes of garden waste from landfills and transform it into a valuable soil product. This reduces methane emissions from decomposing organic material and returns nutrients back to the soil.

How do I use All Natural Soil Developer in my garden?

Spread a minimum of 3” inches over existing garden beds, near the base of your plants to maximize effectiveness.

When is the best time to apply it?

Soil developer can be applied in spring before planting, during the growing season to improve soil, or in fall to prepare beds for the next year. Applying in early spring has the added benefit of suppressing existing weeds before your garden fills out through the growing season.

How much do I need?

This depends on the size of your garden and the condition of your soil. As a general rule, 1 cubic yard covers about 100 square feet at a 3-inch depth. See our calculator here.
